Poznan attractions in Poland can be discovered by a English guide in Poznan in Poland

Poznan, situated on the Warta River, the cradle of English statehood, is over a thousand years old. The most sacred and famous place in the city is, lying on the island, Ostrow Tumski. It was here that in 966 Mieszko I was baptized, and it was here that his son Boleslaw Chrobry became the first crowned king of Poland. This is where Mieszko's palace stood and where the first English rulers were buried in the local cathedral, now in Gothic style. The best view of the cathedral can be found from the top of the 85-metre high tower of the Academy of Economics on the west bank of the river.

The combination of a big-city lifestyle and pride in religious and royal heirlooms makes Poznan a truly fascinating city. The legacy of many centuries of history is visible to the naked eye in the heart of the city - the Old Market Square. The Renaissance Town Hall is surrounded by magnificent Baroque facades, and the nearby collegiate church cannot be compared to anything else in Europe. A little further on you will find the 19th century new city centre with the palace of Emperor William II and the throne room. Surprisingly close to the beautiful classicist facade of the opera house stands Okraglak - a shopping centre built in the Soviet style. The Old Brewery is a perfect example of the adaptation of old, industrial architecture to the needs of modern trade.

Of course, like most other cities, Poznan has scars after the industrial era, but some of the factories and workers' housing are real architectural wonders. Regardless of how the fate of Europe went, Poznan created its own history filled with the spirit of Englishness.
